Tichborne Park IIs vs Southampton Community IIs

In confident mood following last weeks strong performance and the first home game of the season, the IIs took on Southampton Community at the Park on a sunny afternoon.

Won the toss and decided to follow conventional wisdom and have a bat first! Not the best batting performance followed and we made the opposition look a lot better than they actually were by getting ourselves out. Only significant impact came from Garry H (28) and Paul P (32) with a good late partnership from Mike C (16) and Dave W (10) takings us to 144 ao in the 34th over.

Although a sub par total, we felt confident of defending and pushing for the win knowing we had a strong bowling attack. Unfortunately, the opposition had other ideas and had a good start racing to half their total in 10-12 overs. We got back into the game with some tight bowling from Mark D-B (1-23) and Paul P (2-21) and aggressive fielding but unfortunately couldn’t push on for the win with dropped catches costing us dearly. Soton Community were eventual winners by 6 wickets after 33 overs.

Special mention to Paul P and Garry H for taking wicket keeping duties on a tricky wicket (Garry H taking a nasty blow and retiring from the field).

Enjoyable game with plenty of spectators enjoying the hospitality of the Park.
